Mender extraordinaire Jessamy Shay will teach you how to hand-repair holes and weak areas in sweaters, socks, and other knits using square darning and seed stitch. You’ll practice both techniques on sample remnants of damaged sweaters. Once you've got the hang of it, tackle your own darning project on a garment with guidance from Jessamy. We’ll provide you with a wounded secondhand wool clothing item, or use your own.
What we’ll provide: Garment scraps for your practice round and a secondhand wool item in need of repair that you can repair and keep. We'll provide all yarn and necessary tools (needles, darning eggs, embroidery hoops, etc) you'll need to borrow during the class.
What to bring (optional): A knit item in need of repair, ideally with holes no larger than a quarter. Worsted weight or lighter knits work better for this class.
Optional upgrades: Repair kits with additional yarn and needles will be available for purchase to take on another project at home. Premium secondhand clothing items in need of repair will be available for sale.
Cost: $65 ($52 members)
